What are your fees?

As of January 2025: $225/hour for Individual Therapy, $250/hour for Family and Couples Therapy, $225/hour for Psychological Testing and Screening, $300/hour for Formal Assessments/IMEs, $350/hour for Forensic Assessments, and $250/hour for report writing.

Do you charge for report writing?

Yes. Documentation prepared on your behalf is billed at $250.00 per hour. This includes letters to schools, reports to insurance companies, etc.

Are my fees covered by my insurance?

While private psychological services are not covered by MSI, they are covered under some Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) and many extended health plans such as Medavie Blue Cross, Great West Life, SunLife. Psychological services are also tax deductible as a medical expense.

Do you direct bill?

Accepted Answer

We direct bill to Medavie Blue Cross, Canada Life, Green Shield and Sun Life. This includes the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Veteran's Affairs. The Lawyers Assistance Program (LAP) and First Nations Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) are also covered. We cannot offer direct billing for services rendered by Candidate Registered Psychologists to providers such as Canada Life, Desjardins, NIHB, Green Shield, and RCMP. Only fully Registered Psychologists' services are eligible for direct billing. Patients and clients of our Candidate Registered Psychologists, however, may still submit their paid invoices to these insurers for reimbursement.

Are the psychologists at your office registered?

All of our psychologists are registered with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners of Psychology, and therefore fees charged are covered by extended health care plans and are tax-deductible.

Question 6

How many sessions will I require?

Accepted Answer

The exact number depends on the nature and severity of your presenting problem. For example, brief CBT for depression is usually 6-12 sessions, moderate is 12-18 sessions, and long-term for chronic conditions is 18-26 sessions.

How am I billed for the time?

Accepted Answer

Individual therapy is traditionally booked for one hour (50 minute session with 10 minutes for notes). Initial assessments are booked for 1.5 hours. Couples/family therapy first appointments are 2 hours.

What is your cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

We require at least 24 hours notice of cancellation. For Monday appointments, please provide notice by 12:00 pm on Friday. Missed appointments are charged at the full session rate.

What is your snow policy?

If Metro Transit is on Snow Plan OR Dalhousie is CLOSED, we offer rebooking options. If BOTH conditions apply, the office will close and we automatically rebook clients.

Question 10

What if I am late for an appointment?

Accepted Answer

Please call or email if you're running late. Your therapist will wait, but unfortunately time lost cannot be made up. The appointment will still be billed at the scheduled hour.
